All gifts

Prophet

Sees clearly and speaks truth.

The Prophet gift is a strong inner compass for right and wrong. People with this gift see quickly what is true, what is off and what needs to change, and they feel compelled to say so. They are driven by honesty, purpose and a desire to see things made right.

The Prophet gift is about seeing and speaking truth: spotting right and wrong and saying so. It is not the same thing as foretelling the future or 'prophesying'. People with this gift tend to see where things are heading by applying clear principles, not by receiving predictions.

How it shows up

  • Sees situations in clear terms of right and wrong, often at a glance.
  • Speaks up quickly and plainly, sometimes before anyone else has said a word.
  • Loves starting and improving things, and loses interest once they are simply running.
  • Needs a goal, a destination or a reason to get up in the morning.
  • Feels strongly, with a wide emotional range from big highs to deep lows.
  • Values honesty and transparency, and has little patience for hypocrisy.
  • Can be very generous, sometimes on the spur of the moment.
  • Needs time alone to recharge and think things through.

At its best

  • Brave about naming what is wrong, and just as keen to help put it right.
  • Rebuilds and restores rather than only pointing out the cracks.
  • Brings clarity, honesty and fresh energy to a team or a family.
  • Helps others find their direction and step into their potential.
  • Holds high standards and stays with what is right under pressure.

Things to watch for

  • Being harder on other people, and often harder still on yourself, than is helpful.
  • Finding it easier to criticise than to correct with patience and kindness.
  • Holding on to hurt, or finding it hard to forgive other people's failures.
  • Putting being right ahead of the relationship, and pulling away when hurt.
  • Losing interest in something just when it needs steady care.

Growing into this gift

Growth for a Prophet usually means pairing conviction with patience. That can look like speaking the truth warmly, forgiving quickly, staying in relationships through the messy stretches and giving people room to learn. A mature Prophet is still direct and bold, but the people around them feel helped rather than judged.

Where this gift is tested

Relationships. When the gift is under strain, the Prophet may overreact, withdraw or cut ties instead of staying to work things through. Truth and people can start to feel like opposite sides, when they do not have to be.

The story it can tell itself

'I can sort out my own problems better than anyone else can, so I do not need to lean on others.' Believing this makes it hard to accept help, to trust people or to let someone else share the load.

A Bible example

Peter (Acts 5:29-42)

Stood before the authorities and said he would follow what he believed was right, even when ordered to stop, and held his ground under pressure. Caleb, Miriam and Naomi are also named as examples in the teaching.

Background

Guiding principle
Design: seeing how things are meant to be, and calling them back to it.
Birthright
To help others reach their calling and direction, and to rebuild and restore what has been broken.
Creation day
Day one: light was separated from darkness, and order was spoken into the chaos. The Prophet likewise separates clearly and brings order and structure with words.
Tabernacle item
The brazen altar, where wrongdoing was dealt with. It reflects the Prophet's stand for what is right.
